Who is Minthara?

Minthara is a Lolth-Sworn Drow of the Moonrise Towers, a Paladin sworn to the Oath of Vengeance, and a commander responsible for leading the Goblins to the Druid Grove. She is a True Soul serving under Ketheric Thorm.

You'll learn of her as early as Act 1 through clues scattered around the Druid Grove, and when you manage to meet her inside the Shattered Sanctum. It is still in Act 2 that you will be able to recruit her as an active party member.

Joining Minthara in raiding the Emerald Grove successfully will lead you to meeting her later at the Moonrise Towers. From there, you can choose to save her and recruit her into your party as an active member.

Minthara can be found at the northeastern-most section of the Shattered Sanctum, which is inside the Goblin Camp. Clues leading up to her whereabouts are scattered across side quests in the Emerald Grove and surrounding areas.

Join Minthara in Raiding the Emerald Grove

How to Recruit Minthara: Companion Questline Guide | Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)|Game8 (4)

If you are to side with Minthara, you will need to earn her trust by revealing the grove to her. She will read into your mind with her Illithid powers to check if you have seen the Emerald Grove.

Allow her to read into your thoughts. Once you have chosen to join her, she will ask you to infiltrate the Emerald Grove first. Finish up on whatever quests you have in the grove, then take a Long Rest.

Minthara will be waiting at the outside of the grove. Talk to Zevlor at the grove's entrance and betray him to start the battle. Complete the destruction of the grove by killing all of the Druids and Tieflings in The Hollow and Sacred Pool, as well as the ones inside the Secluded Chamber.

Dialogue with Minthara at Your Camp

How to Recruit Minthara: Companion Questline Guide | Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)|Game8 (5)

When returning to camp after destroying the grove, Minthara and the goblins will hold a celebration inside your camp. Minthara will give you an Illithid Parasite.

Go to Bed to trigger a spicy scene with Minthara. There are two scenarios that can happen after your dialogue options with Minthara.

Accepting her advances is the easier of the two routes in this situation. If you refuse her advances and provoke her, you will be forced to fight her at camp. You can still loot her and the Spider's Lyre for the Shadow-Cursed Lands after this, but being able to recruit her ends here.

All Illithid Parasite Locations

Going to Bed with Minthara

NPC Dialogue
Minthara: She told me to decide your fate, to determine if you are worthy. If you are, I am to send you into her embrace, at the seat of her power.

If I go to the seat of Her power. It will be to destroy Her. Result:

Succeeding in the above will have the night pass peacefully, and Minthara will give you the Spider's Lyre without a fight.

Going to Bed without Minthara

The following are crucial dialogue options should you refuse her advances that night.

NPC Dialogue
Minthara: Good - you are awake. I want to taste your fear.
Dialogue Options Dialogue Results
[PERSUASION (DC12)] Don't make this personal. I am a servant of the Absolute, same as you. Success:

[INTIMIDATION (DC15)] You wouldn't dare kill - I'm a True Soul, same as you. Result:

Dialogue above may vary per character and race.

Succeeding in the above dialogue checks will lead to Minthara revealing her mission to send you to the Moonrise Towers (and consequently the dialogue choices in the above section). If you accepted Minthara's advances previously, this dialogue table will be skipped.

Head to the Shadow-Cursed Lands

How to Recruit Minthara: Companion Questline Guide | Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)|Game8 (6)

You can choose any of the two entrances to reach the Mountain Pass: from the Goblin Camp or through the Githyanki Patrol location east of Waukeen's Rest.

You can make it to the Shadow-Cursed Lands by traveling either through the Underdark or the Mountain Pass.

When going for Minthara, the Mountain Pass route is recommended for this since Minthara gives you a Spider's Lyre for summoning Kar'Niss in the Shadow-Cursed Lands as a guide.

Use the Spider's Lyre to summon Kar'Niss, and then introduce yourself as the True Soul. Kar'Niss will guide you on the path to the Moonrise Towers with a Moonlantern protecting your party from the Shadow Curse.

The next time you find Minthara, she will be in the Moonrise Towers being prosecuted in front of Ketheric Thorm.

When meeting her, you can simply choose to watch in silence or proceed with other dialogue options. Whichever course of action you take, Disciple Z'rell sends Minthara to do the Moonrise Tower Prisons.

After the cutscene, choose whatever you want to do with the goblins and then head east to the stairway leading to the entrance of the prison.

Save Minthara from the Questioners

Keep in mind that Minthara is unarmed. If you choose to watch her get mindwiped, you will no longer be able to recruit her. Attacking the Questioners after the mindwipe will also make her hostile to you.

Head inside the Moon Towers Prison. You can choose to get her out peacefully or kill the two Questioners (Jasin and Sumera) mindwiping her. Make sure to close the door first as to not alert the other guards.

NPC Dialogue
Questioner Sumera: We are erasing her.
Dialogue Options Dialogue Results
[PERSUASION (DC12)] I've been instructed to handle this prisoner myself. Success:
Go inside Minthara's mind. More dialogue checks (DC18). Failure:
You must either kill the Questioners or watch her get mindwiped.
[INTIMIDATION (DC15)] Stand aside. I'm taking charge here. Success:
Go inside Minthara's mind. More dialogue checks (DC18). Failure:
You must either kill the Questioners or watch her get mindwiped.
Excellent - I'd like to watch. Result:
Minthara is mindwiped.
Is it really wise? She's a valuable asset. Result:
Leads to more dialogue options. You can only do two things from this point: let her be mindwiped, or kill the Questioners to free her.
You're a coward. Result:
Triggers battle with the Questioners.

Dialogue options above may vary depending on character. Killing the Questioners is the easiest due to some of the dialogue checks to free her having a Difficulty Class of 18.

When you exit the prison cell with her, one of the guards will question you. You can choose to attack them or persuade them through any of the dialogue options.

After freeing Minthara, choosing the fast travel waypoint on the map will cause you to ask Minthara to follow you or stay. She is still not your party member at this point, so make sure to completely leave the Moonrise Towers to finally get the option to recruit her into your camp or party.

Bring Minthara Outside of Moonrise Towers

Battle starts.
[Deception (DC15)] She's entirely repurposed, and has no will of her own.. Success:
Avoids battle. Failure:
Battle starts.

Succeed in any of the checks above and you can leave the Moonrise Towers unharmed.

The sentinel at the entrance of the Moonrise Towers Prison will question Minthara's prescence, you either must either persuade them also or kill them. Killing them will make you an enemy of the Moonrise Towers.

Walk past the Moonrise Towers Waypoint after they have been defeated, and a dialogue with Minthara will trigger. You will be able to recruit her into her your party.

Telling Minthara at any point that you just came to kill her will cause her to become hostile towards you.

How do you recruit Minthara without killing Baldur's Gate 3? ›

To recruit Minthara without killing everyone, you'll need to ensure she survives Act 1, then meet her in Act 2. That means knocking her out, whether you're taking her on in the Shattered Sanctum or battling her as she attacks the Emerald Grove. You do this by using non-lethal attacks on her when her health is low.

How do you recruit Jaheira in Baldur's Gate 3? ›

After the ground floor is secured, Jaheira will join the party on the roof for the first fight with Ketheric Thorm. After Thorm flees into the Mind Flayer Colony Jaheira must be spoken to, as it is at this point that she can be fully recruited and will join the party permanently.

How to recruit Minthara in a good playthrough? ›

To get Minthara on a good playthrough, you must activate non-lethal attacks and knock her out in the goblin camp in Act 1. Then reach Act 2, and you can find her alive in Moonrise Towers, judged by General Ketheric Thorn during Act 2. Rescue her, and she will join you.

Can you get Minthara without attacking the grove? ›

Players have a choice to help her raid the Grove. However, helping Minthara is not required to recruit her. If players raid the Grove with Minthara, two of their other companions, Wyll and Karlach, will permanently leave the player's party.

When can I recruit Minthara? ›

When you meet her, she tells you she's planning on raiding the Emerald Grove with an army of Goblins. If you agree to help her wipe everyone out, you'll have the option to invite her to join your party during Act 2 of the story.

Is it possible to have Minthara and halsin? ›

Normally, you can either get Minthara or Halsin as your BG3 companions – but not both. Minthara only joins if you destroy Emerald Grove and facilitate the Tiefling refugees' murders. Halsin, head druid of said grove, naturally takes a dim view of those actions and refuses to join. The reverse is true as well.

Is it worth having Minthara as a companion? ›

Minthara makes a fine companion and consort. Sure, sometimes needs a slap down, but less than others. Nothing so 'evil' about her per se, more a reflection of your MC. Romancing her is worth it for the ending and epilogue, but you can't get the infamous sex scene on the 'good' path.

Can you get Minthara without being evil? ›

It's a case of knocking her out in Act 1 instead of murdering her. You can, it seems, dispatch the rest of her fellow cultists but leave her alive and she'll turn up in Act 2, when you arrive in Moonrise Towers. You can then free her from the clutches of Ketheric Thorm, aka Evil Beardy J. Jonah Jameson.

Should Jaheira join the party in BG3? ›

We recommend you do this, as allowing her to act as an NPC gives her a greater chance of death. Continue along as you would normally until you defeat Ketheric Thorm on the rooftops. As he escapes, speak to Jaheira and you'll get the prompt to invite her to your party temporarily to fight Ketheric.

Is Jaheira a good companion in BG3? ›

Who should pick Jaheira: Jaheira might be a good pick to relive the earlier Baldur's Gate games, but that's about it. Her class and stats limit her utility, and she can't even join your party until late in the game, making her story feel like an afterthought.

Should you let Jaheira fight with you? ›

You must speak to her before you can continue. When fighting Ketheric Thorm, it can be tempting to have Jaheira lead the army of Harpers, but your best bet to keep her safe is to have her fight alongside you.

How do I get Minthara as a companion? ›

Make sure you walk out of the gates with Minthara. With the right Charisma Rolls, Minthara will ask to meet you at camp. Then, head back to camp and save your game. From here, you'll be able to interact with Minthara and have her join your party just like any other companion character.

How to get Minthara to like you in BG3? ›

If you talk to her in the Shattered Sanctum and tell her where the Druid Grove is, you can help the goblins raid the settlement. Continuing to work with her and slaughtering everyone at the Druid Grove leads to romancing her. Minthara, like the other non-origin characters, only has one romance scene.

How to trick Minthara? ›

Simply tell Minthara the location of Emerald Grove, and as she steps away from her desk to cross the bridge in the middle of the room, shoot it with an arrow to break it and send her plummeting to her death. You've just saved yourself a lengthy battle, though you won't be able to loot her corpse.

How to get mintharas lyre? ›

The main one that you'll have access to right now is the Spider Lyre, which comes from Minthara. This can either be done by killing her during the quest to save Halsin, by siding with her, or even romancing her and getting the Lyre as a gift.
